What I Discovered When buying a deluxe Convertible Car Seat
I started shopping for a vehicle seat before my baby was born and when I discovered the deluxe convertible car seat I knew I had found what I wanted. They have everything a parent could ever need for their kid. Each brand that I look at had something to give. The concept of having one auto seat from the time my baby was an infant up until the time he weighed one hundred lbs. Was mind astounding. I knew a deluxe convertible car seat was what I wanted.
I spent a large amount of time buying just the right luxury convertible car seat and I found out some truly interesting things on the way. The first one I looked at was the Eddie Bauer luxury 3 in one Convertible Car Seat. It is intended to start out rear facing for an infant weighing from 5 lbs to 35 lbs and forward facing from twenty-two lbs to forty lbs.
The head rest of the Eddie Bauer deluxe convertible car seat can be moved to four different positions and has a five point harness, a brilliant concept to keep your youngster safe and cushty. I thought the seat looked far too massive for a newborn and read some reviews online that oldsters wrote and some concluded.
It had been a little tricky to switch the positions of this actual convertible automobile seat at first but it did not take too much time to get into the swing of it. Eddie Bauer also makes some nice accessories and seat covers to go with this car seat.
A 2nd convertible car seat that I looked at was Evenflo’s Tribute luxury Convertible Car Seat, Elena. I liked it because it had some awfully interesting fabric options. It also had rear facing capacities for children from 5 lbs to thirty lbs and forward facing for children from 20 lbs to 40 lbs.
The Evenflo Tribute luxury Convertible vehicle Seat has a removable head and body pillow and is formed of Energy soaking up froth for safety on impact. A 5-point harness and the fact that it meets or excels all applicable U.S. Safety standards were reassuring. When I read some reviews on this one, they were often favorable.
And eventually, I checked out the Costco deluxe Convertible Car Seat. It has the changing positions as well and is rear-facing up to 35 lbs. It can be forward-faced for older babies from 22 lbs to 40 lbs and has a 5-point harness system with a front-harness that is easy to adjust and covered in padded, cleanable fabric. One hand release makes it easy to open even while holding your baby.
The Costco deluxe Convertible Car Seat is the least expensive of the 3 so if price is a choice you will want to consider this one for sure. It does not have quite the quantity of options that the Eddie Bauer deluxe convertible car seat has, but if you’re counting your cents it could be the perfect one for you.

Advantages of this seat -
+ Prolongs the life of your other Orbit products!
+ Easy to take in and out of bases, great it your baby travels in other cars
+ Able to move a sleeping child from the car to stroller or house without waking up!
Disadvantages
+ VERY HEAVY!
+ Not good enough as a stroller to use as both car seat and stroller on vacations, I took both while air traveling
+ Once forward facing, not easy to remove (you can’t use the bases anymore)
+ Straps get twisted frequently
I plan on buying a new toddler car seat to move between the nanny’s car and husband’s car, while keeping the orbit in my own. Other toddler car seats are half the weight and easier to install (forward facing)

sure, it may be safe. but it’s also a big pain in the butt.
-in my 4-runner, i couldn’t see anything out the rear view mirror with my rear-facing toddler car seat. NOTHING.
-the only way i could rotate it was to climb into the backseat, grip both sides and pull with all my strength. SO frustrating.
-there is no way i could lift my sleeping child, strapped into that thing, out of the car & onto the stroller. NO way.
-there is no recline option for your sleeping child. my son weighed 22 lbs at 6 months old & required a toddler car seat. after 2 trips and seeing his poor little head in his lap, i was done.
-and the obvious negative, once your child is forward facing, the infamous rotating base is obsolete.
i am thrilled with my britax boulevard click safe. for $320 it’s a little cheaper, reclines, looks great and is top of the class safety.
orbit, i love your infant system. i was your #1 fan. but you’ve got a loooong way to go on the toddler system as far as i’m concerned.

I think it speaks for itself that when we took this out of the box and put it on the floor, my daughter climbed into the seat all by herself and refused to get out. The seat is very comfortable and deep, so when she falls asleep in it, she can lean her head on the sides of the seat. Yes, it is heavy, but it’s a CAR SEAT, not a stroller. We do not (nor do we intend to) move it in and out of the car. Safety is our first priority and this seat seems to fit the bill! (We travel a lot and still haven’t found a toddler car seat that is “easy” to fly with.) I like that our daughter (now 18 months) can still sit rear-facing, although we may have to turn her around soon. (We had an Evenflo for my son, which was fine, but nowhere near the quality of the Orbit.) The details on the Orbit are great, too: the velcro holdbacks for the straps so you don’t have to dig them out from under your toddler every time, the removable seat pads/cover that make it easy to clean after snacks get out of hand (we love being able to remove just the soiled pieces instead of having to take off the entire cover), and the straps are easy to adjust (just like the infant car seat). Best of all, the rotation on the base has saved us a lot of back pain. If there are any negatives, it would be that the buckle piece between toddler’s legs tends to flop down so she sits on it and we have to pull it out from under her and if I leave the seat turned facing the door (when she’s not in the car), the top of it partially blocks my view out the back. We haven’t tried using this on the stroller, so I can’t speak to that, but as a car seat, it’s fantastic! I wish they made an adult-sized one!

Good, solid feel from this carseat. It feels protective and comfortable. Sometimes the straps twist a little, and that is pretty annoying, and the central buckle seems a little close to my boy’s crotch. Those are the only downsides. The clips that attach to the car are very functional and easy to attach and detach, which is very important when you need more room in the back and don;t have your kid with you. It is more expensive than others, but this is a very good car seat.

I have been happy with Eddie Bauer products and so wanted to buy this one for a while. I never purchased convertible car seat in the past so I had to do lot of research before buying one.
The previous carseat for infants was getting small for my son, so I decided to buy a bigger car-seat that will last for a long time. I hope this is the last carseat I have to ever buy for my son.
The car-seat fits perfectly in the car without much trouble. I was worried about it and it’s effect on the front seat.
My car is Honda Civic 2008 model, It was not a problem at all and I did not pull the front seat too much.
My son likes it and I am happy with the product.
Update:
It’s been a month now, there has been not a single instance of belt tangling. Belt tangling was a problem with the infant car-seat that I had from Eddie Bauer.
Buckling the kid is quit easy, It really does not take much effort to buckle up and I can unbuckle the kid with just one hand (with left hand, I am a right handed person)

I am pulling my hair out at this point in my search for ‘the one.’ It does not exist.
Notice: The gray is darker than in the picture.
-It may just be the one I got, but the rabbit ears above the head rest just do not work very well. They stick, the red plastic cover pulls right off. Why did they change it from adjusting in the back with the bar? They try to get all fancy…stick with the basics.
-The padding is not very good around the head on the main pad for ’side impact protection.’ The padding is way better on my son’s toddler Eddie Bauer Deluxe. Same idea, just not convertible.
-The fabric is thin and cheap.
-The piping around the seat separating the solid from plaid fabrics is hard and uncomfortable.
-The recline mechanism is flimsy with a light weight base.
IMO it is better than the Evenflo Symphony and all three models of the First Years True Fit. The seat is at least a whole piece without awkward holes cut out of it that bother bottoms. And it has the adjustable crotch strap that threads through the slits in the fabric (woohoo!) instead of a mechanism that requires a huge cut-out of the fabric (one of the dumbest ideas ever imo).
+The latch system is not awkward or difficult at all.
+It fits in my Prius on the passenger side leaving the passenger up front with adequate leg room.
overall:
The rabbit ear height adjusters and the cut-cost lack of padding on the upper seat are the biggest things I dislike. There aren’t really any other options left except for trying the Complete Air from Safety First. Ug. Seems like every convertible seat out there is poorly thought out.

This definitely wasn’t my first choice but it was my only option at the time so I bought it and I am pretty happy with it. Forward-facing it works great! My daughter is comfortable, I can recline the seat to best fit her needs, making adjustments to the seat are easy, seat belts rarely tangle…and did I mention my daughter is really comfortable! I always looks at her and wish that my drivers seat was as comfortable looking as her seat…lol. My only complaint is when its rear-facing it sits too straight up. Her head always slumped forward whenever she fell asleep and I always felt bad. But other than that, great seat! I would purchase again for when its time to face my daughter forward. Installation seemed very confusing at first but when you actually take time to read the manual (and this is true really for all car seats)it is really simple to install.

We got this seat because at the time it was the only one that would fit my infant daughter in her hip brace. And I have never liked it. We bought it in 2008, so they may have improved it since then, but it has nothing going for it. The buckles are extremely hard to get undone (good thing I guess for a toddler – she can’t escape), the seat pitches her forward making it uncomfortable for her to sleep in (her head falls forward), the latch straps are tough to remove/insert (I have to put my full body weight into the seat to latch them and even sometimes I struggle with it). I would never buy this again, and after two years and another baby on the way, we’ve purchased another seat because I am just tired of fighting with it.
